Design Principles

Enterpise software can have a great user experience if we try.

It’s the designer’s job to protect the attention of the audience.

The purpose of design is fundamentally different from art or decoration. Design is “the rendering of intent”. Art is self-expression. Decoration is an expression of style or taste.

Content and design are inseperable.

Having a good product is better than any marketing or SEO.

Good design requires empathy for the user/audience.

Committees are not good at design.

Never use “click here” for a hyperlink. Never use “submit” for the text of a form button.

Clarity and direct writing styles.

Design helps the most when it involved early on in a project.

Designers should collaborate directly with developers and business people. Handoffs from linear processes (eg waterfall) produce poor results.
